The Chiropractic adjustment is designed to reduce the subluxation of a joint complex such as found in the spine. An adjustment is a high velocity, short duration thrust to a joint within that joint's proper range of motion to re-establish the proper position and range of motion of the joint. The resultant proper position and activity re-establishes the proper line of communication with the nervous system. Proper function has been restored.
Misaligned vertebrae which create nerve interference are called subluxations. A fall or injury, chronic poor posture, poor sleeping position and even emotional stress leading to hypertonicity of the muscles may produce subluxations. They may result from stresses or strains either physically, chemically or emotionally which may overload the nervous system's protective mechanism and produce subluxations.
These subluxations reduce the body's ability to function the way that it was meant creating dysfunction in the systems of the body. This dysfunction can lead to different problems and pain syndromes such as low back pain, midback pain, neck pain and headaches.
Chiropractic is also effective to reduce the subluxations of other joints in the body such as those in the feet and ankles. If you have ever had foot or ankle pain, you know how limping around for a few days can make the knees, hips, lowback and more start to ache as well. Hips, knees, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands, even the jaw can be helped with a Chiropractic adjustment.
